Beginner's Archery Course - Starts Spring 2008

Beginners Course 2007

About our Beginners Course

Perhaps you've never shot a bow before or maybe you've had a go at archery at an activity day or while on holiday. Either way we welcome anybody who want to try out archery with a view to taking it up and joining our club. Our instructors will teach you the right technique and ensure that you know how to shoot safely. We'll also tell you all about target archery including

  • safety, etiquette and the rules of shooting

  • shooting rounds and scoring

  • the handicap and classification scheme

We provide all the equipment you'll need for the course, so please don't buy any until you've had our advice.

We'll also give you printed notes after each lesson to remind you of what you learnt

Clothing

You should wear comfortable but close-fitting clothing. If it's chilly it's better to wear several thin layers rather than one bulky one and perhaps bring a woolly hat. In particular it's important that you don't wear jumpers or jackets with baggy sleeves as the bow string tends to catch on them and spoil your shot!

Cost

The total cost per person for the beginner's course is £36.

We ask that you pay £6 at the first lesson, with the remaining balance of £30 due at the start of the second lesson. If after the first week you decide that archery is not for you then you have only spent £6!

Starting date and time

The 2008 outdoor beginner's courses will start in April 2008 (exact day and date to be confirmed).

If you think you might wish to join the 2008 beginners course, please fill in a form and we will contact you nearer the time.

Those who can't make the first week or two can still be accepted onto the course. However, places on the course are strictly limited - so book as soon as possible.

A waiting list will be in operation for those who cannot be accommodated in the first course.

Duration of the course

The course typically consists of 4 lessons each of 90 minutes each. If it is necessary to cancel a lesson due to bad weather, or if you know in advance that you'll miss a particular week (e.g. if you are on holiday), then it can be made up later. If you're unable to attend a particular lesson please let us know beforehand. We cannot accept beginners into the Club unless they have attended all lessons.

Juniors

We welcome Juniors aged 8 and above onto the beginner's course. Acceptance of Juniors onto the course is subject to the approval of the head coach based on an assessment of the capability of the Juniors to shoot safely.
